Friday, Sept. 20, a storm passed through Wichita, disrupting and prolonging Northwest’s football game against Junction City. Heavy winds, recurring rainfall, and large bolts of lightning led the Northwest administration to direct people inside the school for shelter.
Many students were concerned the game would be canceled or postponed while others were concerned about safety and getting home.
“I felt scared with everybody rushing out so quickly but going inside was pretty calm so I’m excited for the game to continue,” Jade Quintanar (10) said.
Some football players felt the team would get tired due to the extended waits while others held out hope.
“I was surprised that everyone rushed out so quickly at first but then was worried the game would be canceled because the storm was coming in really fast but I think the breaks are just giving the team more time to push harder and I think we’re winning tonight” Max Harbacek (10) said.
The game had multiple intermissions for viewers’ safety, but despite the weather conditions the game was safely and successfully held with another victory for the Grizzlies.
