Boys basketball season update
On Jan. 10, the Northwest varsity boys basketball team began a rough patch in their season. The Grizzlies faced defeat against Southeast. They finished with a score of 35-58. Junior Aaron Nicholson led the team with 10 points, followed by senior Cortez Carr, who had 7.
This loss was succeeded by another one at Kapaun. The Crusaders scored a last-second shot to bring the final score to 42-43 on Tuesday, Jan. 14. Senior Kaleb Cobb had 16 points and junior Nick Williams scored 11.
The boys were able to return from their setback with an exciting win over Bishop Carroll on Friday, Jan. 17. Nicholson and Williams led the team to the 37-32 victory with 10 points each.
The Grizzlies then traveled to Topeka for a tournament, where they went 0-3 for the weekend. They lost to Highland Park on Jan. 24, 44-62 The next day brought about a 34-47 loss to Topeka. The tournament ended on Jan. 26 with a loss to South. The final score was 48-65.
Northwest returned home to face another devastating loss to North. A buzzer-beater from the Redskins on Jan. 28 brought the final score to 58-60. Junior Brett Johnston had 24 points and Cobb had 13.
Due to snow days, the next game was not played until Saturday, Feb. 8. The Grizzlies secured a win of 53-49 over West. Williams led the team with 11 points, followed by Carr who had 10.
The boys encountered another loss at the buzzer on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at South. Williams scored 19 and Cobb had 11, but fell just short of a win with a score of 47-49.
The Grizzlies are looking to recover from the loss tonight against East. The game will be held in the Northwest gym at 7:30 p.m.
