As of Wednesday, September 15, a dozen Wichita Public School students have been named semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship, four of them from Northwest. In order to become semifinalists, students had to take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) and score in the top half of 1 percent in Kansas. The four Northwest students to be named semifinalists are seniors Daniel Depew, Ashley Farris, Michael McCormick, and Elise Fast.
