Twice a year the Grizzlies have this special day where they bring the food to you. Being a freshman or sophomore can be hard when you want to leave and get food but can not, so Market Day is a good way for them to get food without leaving and getting in trouble. Market day is also is great for students to learn how to sell products, teaching them how to make profit and just a fun way to incorporate their business with fun.
Gavin Darr and Chris Lambert are the two heads of the business department both who let their class enjoy the market day experience. Darr had his participants sell Nov. 7 and Lambert’s participants sold their products Nov. 5 and 8. Let’s take a look at two of the participants and see how they did.
Elena Ward (12) participated in her first market day by selling a Chick-fil-A meal deal which included a chicken sandwich and a Dr Pepper for $8. Ward must repay the cost of the food but she can keep any additional earnings. She estimates her profit to be up to $140, having paid around $4 for the meals herself. Afterwards we talked to Elana and found out her profit was $113, which had to be split between all of the group members so they got around $37 to take home for each person.
Next let’s take a look at a younger student and see how he did.
Julain Tabion (10) along with three other group members gave their fair share to market day by selling Wing Stop.
“We sold three different flavors of boneless wings, and made a total profit of around $44 for each group member for a total of $132.”
The wings cost $146 to purchase which of course had to be paid back. When asked what he would do differently if he could go back in time Tabion said that he feels like “the assembly line was kind of like out of order. I guess I feel like it was less efficient than it could have been,” Tabion said.
